PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Greetings on behalf of the Southwest
Riverside County Bar Association. I welcome all Association
members, and on their behalf, the general public. It is my
pleasure to serve as President of this Association during what I
believe will be a dynamic and challenging year.
I trust that this website meets the needs of
both Association members and the public. This website is
relatively new, and we are certainly excited as we expand our
service to the community through this website. Those who have
comments designed to improve our website are encouraged to contact
a board member and inform us of your suggestion.
The events of the past decade have presented
many challenges to the country, the people, and, of course, to the
legal profession. Many personal and legal issues have been
presented, and many more will come forward, including permitting
the expansion of federal government powers to combat terrorism,
the treatment of detainees, and continued deployment of America’s
sons and daughters. While it is absolutely necessary that we
combat terrorism, in this country and abroad, I believe it
appropriate to remind all that we all also serve the Constitution
of the United States of America. Therefore, it is incumbent upon
us to fight terrorism consistent with the Constitution of our
great country. Accordingly, I believe that 2011 will be a
spirited and challenging year with regard to individual freedoms
versus the needs of many.
The polarization of our country continues. I
do not seek to place blame for the polarization, I merely wish to
point out that it exists and will challenge those of us in the
legal profession as we strive to remain objective and stick to the
issues. We all serve the Constitution in the end.
This Association is committed to education.
Because of this commitment, we have previously obligated funds to
recognize high school students in the Mock Trial Program, and
numerous members are available as speakers to local schools,
community service groups, and other public forums. Our members
who serve as Mock Trial Coaches have done very well and the
schools within our sponsorship area continue to excel. I
encourage all to utilize the services of our members as speakers
regarding the Constitution, the Law of War, and certainly the
career of law. Browse for a moment in the biography section of
our membership, and I’m confident that you will note the wide
range of life experiences possessed by our members.
This Association is composed of members of
this community. We are committed to serving this community, both
in our professional and personal capacities. I wish all a
challenging and personally rewarding 2011.
