PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I am honored to have been elected as the Southwest Riverside
County Bar Association President for 2008. I would like to thank
our outgoing President, Kelly Bennett, for an outstanding job last
year. She was an effective leader who helped this association
have a productive year.
The major area I
would like to draw attention to this year is using our skills as
lawyers to be peacemakers in the community. Let’s resolve
disputes at the earliest possible time. With the budget deficits
that all government agencies are facing, it is unlikely that the
Riverside County Courts will receive sufficient money to fund the
judicial positions necessary in our county any time soon. This
will result in a backlog of civil trials for the foreseeable
future. Abraham Lincoln said: “Discourage litigation. Persuade
your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them
how the nominal winner is often a real loser -- in fees, expenses,
and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior
opportunity of being a good man (woman). There will still be
business enough.”
If you are an
attorney living or practicing in Southwest Riverside County and
not yet a member, please join our association and begin to enjoy
the many benefits membership brings. Simply click on "Are you a
SWRBAR Member", scroll to the bottom, complete the application,
and submit it on-line.
If you are a
member of the public looking for an attorney, please check our
membership directory. This website has other useful links to
self-help legal resources, contact information, and information on
resolving disputes.
Sincerely,
Richard B. Beck
